Best Apps for Newlyweds
Couple sitting down while looking at cell phone
As a newlywed couple, it can be difficult combining your households and lives. It can be even more difficult to find ways to save money. So, here are the best apps to assist you as you begin life together!
Let’s Collaborate

GOOGLE PHOTOS
You can have a joint photo album where you keep all your vacation, wedding, or everyday photos together. Google even creates slideshows and collages for you! As you add pictures, you can comment on them, so you never forget your favorite memories. Best part? Unlimited storage for photos!

GOOGLE KEEP
From grocery lists, to-do lists, to organizing possible future purchases, Google Keep is great for collaboration. You can both add to your shared list at any time and it will immediately update. Looking for a home? Keep pictures, questions, and home stats all in one place. Heading to the grocery that evening? Don’t worry about leaving the list at home; you can both continue to add to it throughout the day. Preparing for a big trip (honeymoon perhaps)? Start your conjoined to-do list and packing list before you head out on the open road!
Let’s Start a Budget
CAUTION: There are tons of budgeting apps out there, but First Kentucky Bank does not recommend ever giving a third-party source access to your bank account or credit/debit card numbers. The following are options strictly to help you create a budget and track spending, without giving out any of your private information.

MONEY MONITOR
This has an easy-to-use interface with lots of budgeting options and bill reminders. The best part is that it does not require you to connect any of your personal account information. It is strictly a way for you to monitor the numbers. Currently, though, there is no way for you to collaborate with your spouse on the budget. If you decide to use this one, we recommend keeping your receipts throughout the day, and right before bed, both of you adding in those receipts to your app. At the end of the month, you can export this data to a spreadsheet so you can monitor where you are spending the majority of your money to help you better budget for the coming months.

GOOGLE DRIVE
You might consider creating an excel document with your budget that you can share with your spouse. Google documents immediately update whether you’re on your computer or phone. You can even create a folder to store pictures of receipts to declutter your purse or wallet (or car console… you know there are some in there).
Let’s Save Some Money!

IBOTTA
This app takes a little more time and effort to use, but it’s free money! Here’s how to use it:
-
- As you’re watching TV the night before you’re big shopping trip, go through Ibotta and unlock any deals You think you might take advantage of. There are sometimes even generic deals on everyday purchases like a gallon of milk and bread.
- When you get home, verify your purchases by scanning the items in your “unlocked deals” list.
- Take a picture of your receipt and you’re done!
- They have two additional ways you can earn money as well, but they require the linking of a store account or credit/debit card, which is not recommended by First Kentucky.

RETAIL ME NOT
Even if you don’t have time to coupon, you have time to use RetailMeNot. So, while you’re standing in line at the store, search for any coupons they might have that day. You never know, you might save a few dollars, with very little effort!
In starting a marriage it’s important to communicate effectively and save money for the future. So, try out some of these simple-to-use apps to help you succeed in both endeavors!
